Getting people into work is incredibly important.
It’s the best way to help people get on in life, support businesses, and grow our economy.
Last year I was delighted to visit the new Job Centre Plus in Maidstone just after it had opened. I returned recently to catch up with some of the staff and thank them for their work over the past year.
Work coaches at the Centre are doing a tremendous job. Their dedication and care for the people they are helping into work was clear to see.
There are clearly still very real barriers to work for some people, including childcare costs and not having the right skills. We need to tackle these underlying problems if we want to get more people into work and help realise their potential.
Thanks to the Government’s Plan for Jobs, we have more people on payrolls than ever before. As a former Treasury Minister, I was proud to lead the Government’s work on skills training for people and businesses.
As MP for Faversham and Mid Kent, I’ll continue working with local residents and businesses to tackle barriers to work and make sure that work pays for everyone.
