Traffic is one thing, but from time-to-time ear-splitting engines shatter the peace in a town or village.
I know there are some places that suffer particularly badly – including Ospringe, where the A2 goes through the village.
That’s why I’ve applied for the junction between Ospringe Street and London Road to be included in Government trials of new noise cameras.
The use of these new cameras is part of a plan by the Department for Transport to banish loud engines and exhausts on Britain’s noisiest streets, backed by £300,000 of funding.
The technology can automatically detect when vehicles are breaking legal noise requirements - helping provide police and local authorities with the tools and evidence to take action against drivers who flout noise laws.
While I know many places in Faversham and Mid Kent could benefit from this new technology, MPs could only back one location to be included in the trial scheme.
Residents asked me to put forward Ospringe for the latest trials, and I agree that it’s an ideal location. People have complained time and again about the sound of traffic passing through.
This is another step towards making life better for people who live next to some of our busiest roads.
