Our drains in Faversham need some attention.
I’ve been working with Southern Water and local councillors to identify trouble spots and get these fixed.
As someone who has seen flood water come into my home, I know just how distressing this can be and how important it is to have a functioning wastewater network.
I met the Southern Water Chief Executive, Ian McAulay, and local councillors in Faversham at the end of last year to see how £2 million of investment in the Faversham Wastewater Treatment Plant will reduce storm discharges into the Creek.
We also discussed the improvements needed across the wider wastewater network in the town.
I recently chaired a meeting with Southern Water and local councillors for an update on progress, and I’m pleased to see that work is being carried out across a number of sites.
On Tanner Street – Southern Water have started work to repair manhole covers and Kent County Council will be carrying out a topographical survey later this month.
On Church Road – Southern Water has carried out an inspection and are working with Kent County Council to replace manhole covers.
On Whitstable Road – Cooks Ditch has been cleared and outfall flaps have been repaired.
I’ll continue to make sure we get the investment we need in our wastewater network.
