Last week I gave a hand with some tree planting at the site of a brand-new woodland in Kent.
The 300 acre site of Pleasant Farm was acquired by Forestry England in 2020 and is now being turned into Pleasant Forest.
Woodlands are really special places. They’re fantastic for nature as well as spaces for people to walk and kids to play.
I’m delighted that Forestry England is planting this new woodland around Platts Heath and Sandway. This is such an exciting project for the local community.
I strongly objected to plans to turn this site into a new lorry park, and it’s fantastic to see it being planted with 170,000 trees instead – a much better future for this part of the Kent countryside.
I heard how one local resident had tears in her eyes when she heard the news. The woodland clearly means so much to the local community already.
Projects like this will help us reach our national tree planting aims, as well as delivering a fantastic new woodland for people to enjoy.
It’s great that we have this project on our doorstep and I strongly encourage local people to get involved and support in any way they can.
