Schools in Kent will be getting £1.44 billion in funding this year - £115 million more than last year.
The extra funding is part of a £4 billion boost for the schools budget in England – a real terms increase of 5 per cent on last year.
I’m pleased this extra funding is being combined with increases to minimum per-pupil funding levels, meaning this money will be more fairly distributed.
I know that minimum funding levels have made a big difference to many of our local schools since they were introduce a few years – especially those schools that have been historically underfunded.
The latest changes mean that every primary school will receive at least £4,362 per pupil, and every secondary school at least £5,669 per pupil.
This year’s budget also includes an extra £1 billion for pupils with special educational needs.
I know the past couple of years have been extremely tough for teachers, pupils, and parents. This funding boost, alongside our education recovery plan, will help young people catch up and ensure they have the skills they need to thrive and succeed.
I’m determined to see our local schools get fair funding to give children in Faversham and Mid Kent the education they deserve.
