Latest stats from HMRC show 11,000 people in Faversham and Mid Kent have benefited from the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.
The Government scheme provides employers with 80 per cent of people’s wages, up to £2,500 per month. Nearly 9 million people across the country have been supported by the scheme so far.
A further 4,400 people in our constituency have made claims worth over £14 million as part of the Self-Employment Income Support Scheme.
In total, over 15,000 people in Faversham and Mid Kent have benefited from schemes to support jobs and the self-employed during coronavirus.
This is a huge amount of support. I know it’s been appreciated by thousands of people across Kent and millions of people across the country.
This is a hugely challenging time for people and businesses. I see that in the hundreds of emails and letters I receive every day.
The Government is committed to saving lives, but also safeguarding livelihoods, during this difficult time. We’re determined to do everything it can to help people put food on the table and pay the bills.
While thousands of people have benefited from support, I know some businesses are falling through the cracks. I’m pleased the Chancellor is keeping these schemes under review to make sure everyone gets the support they need.
