We thought we’d seen the back of Operation Stack, but Kent once again ground to a halt last week – this time because of bad weather. It was a grim reminder of 2015, with short journeys taking hours, children unable to get to school and businesses losing money.
Operation Brock – which enables traffic to continue to flow on the London-bound carriageway while lorries queue coast-bound – could not be used because improvements to the M20 have not been completed. There will be overnight closures on the London-bound carriageway until 23rd March to get the roadworks finished. Read more here.
With so much uncertainty about Brexit we must be prepared whatever happens. These roadworks must be completed as soon as possible so that traffic continue to flow.
Unfortunately, this does mean drivers will have to put up with overnight closures for the next few weeks. However I’m glad that Highways England have listened to me and other Kent MPs, after we wrote asking for the motorway to be reopened before 6am to minimise disruption. They've agreed to re-open the motorway early whenever possible.
