My grandmother was prescribed the wrong medicine, which shortened her life. If she’d had an electronic prescription – which makes it much easier for doctors to share information – this may not have happened.
So I'm delighted that hospitals in Kent are getting £1,450,000 for new technology to reduce medical mistakes.
The money will enable East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust to introduce electronic prescribing.
Moving away from old fashioned paper systems will make prescribing quicker, more efficient and can reduce potentially life-threatening medication errors by up to 50%.
Cutting paperwork not only reduces mistakes, it gives doctors and other clinicians more time to do what really matters: caring for patients.”
