A major improvement scheme at Brenley Corner IS being seriously considered.
Highways bosses are "pressing for a major scheme to provide an improved grade separated junction in order to deliver a major change at Brenley Corner," Roads Minister Andrew Jones assured me in a recent letter.
The next big round of investment in roads is due in 2020, and this letter gives me confidence that Brenley Corner will be included.
Brenley Corner is one of the top 50 most dangerous junctions in the country as well as a major source of congestion in Kent, according to a report by Highways England, the Government agency that builds and operates roads.
The report was drawn up to help decide which roads should be upgraded, and earmarked Brenley Corner as a priority for investment post 2020
I wrote to Andrew Jones after the Spring Budget, to say disappointment that Brenley Corner did not benefit from a £220 million 'pinch point' fund and ask him to explain what criteria were used to make this decision.
He replied that adequately solving Brenley Corner would have consumed most of the £220 million fund, and that is why it is being considered in the next round of major investment.
