Following on from my recent survey of thousands of local residents, I have called on Highways England and the Department for Transport to tidy up Kent’s roads.
Speaking in the House of Commons yesterday, I said “over 2000 people responded to my rural residents survey in Faversham and Mid Kent. One of the most common concerns raised was litter – especially on the A2 and M2.” I went on to ask the Minister for Roads, Andrew Jones MP what steps he would take to make sure that Highways England fulfilled their responsibilities to keep Kent’s roads clean.
The Minister said that the Government is monitoring litter very carefully and added that 250 bags of litter have been collected from the A2 in March.
I am very grateful to everyone who responded to my rural residents survey. I can’t speak to as many people on the doorstep in rural areas, so I launched this survey to make sure I understand what local concerns are.
Litter on the A2 and M2 was mentioned a lot so I was pleased to be able to take this up in Parliament straight away. I will be following up with Highways England to try and get these roads tidied up.
