Broadband regulator Ofcom has set a record £42 million fine for not paying enough compensation to telecoms companies. Openreach, BT's broadband arm, provides broadband infrastructure for all internet providers, however an investigation by Ofcom has found that Openreach had not paid other providers the compensation they were entitled to. In addition to the fine to Ofcom, BT will have to pay the compensation to the telecoms companies, totalling some £300 million, over the coming year.
