Beer duty: Minister responds

Helen Whately receives a letter from the Treasury about beer duty and business rates for pubs

With the Budget coming on Wednesday 8 March, a number of constituents wrote to me about beer duty and business rates for pubs.

I am very supportive of our local brewing industry. Shepherd Neame is one of the largest employers in the constituency, and we also have several excellent micro-breweries. I have previously called on the Chancellor to lower beer duty and on the Small Business Minister to cut regulation for pubs. 

I met with the Chancellor to discuss these issues last week. I also wrote to HM Treasury to lobby them in writing. I received a reply from the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, which you can read here.
