Brenley corner needs a complete overhaul. Traffic keeps getting worse but the roundabout has been left almost completely unchanged for over 50 years. We've been waiting long enough for investment in our roads.
I wrote to Highways England, who are responsible for the roads, calling for investment in this busy part of the road network. You can read my letter here.
Highways England responded, saying that they “will review options for a longer term solution within our roads investment strategy post 2020.” They also plan to install new signalling on the approaches to Brenley Corner by 2017/18. You can read the letter here.
I’m glad that new lights and improved signalling are on the way – this will be warmly welcomed by drivers and pedestrians. But there’s more to be done. I want them to commit to a complete overhaul of Brenley Corner and an upgrade for Kent’s roads. With all the new houses and commercial development planned for the area, this is getting urgent.
