If your train is delayed by 15 minutes you will be able to claim back 25% of your fare, under a new compensation scheme set to be introduced on Southeastern trains.
Compensation for delays over 30 minutes is unchanged.
This is something I have been pressing both Ministers and Southeastern about, so I welcome it.
Everyone wants rail services that run on time, but we all recognise things sometimes go wrong. When they do it is passengers who suffer, particularly commuters who use the trains daily. The new system will allow you to get compensation for a delay of 15 minutes or more. That's important because if you're delayed several days in a row, time missed off work or the costs of extra childcare can start to add up. This should act as an added incentive to train operators to run on time too.
This ‘Delay Repay 15’ system will be introduced by Govia on Thameslink services within months and will then be rolled out to their other franchises, including Southeastern.
I will be monitoring the situation to ensure the roll out of the improved scheme is introduced as soon as possible for trains serving local stations.
You can find out more about the scheme here.
