It’s brilliant to see the Faverhsam underpass mural completed.
As so many Faversham residents will know, the underpass has been in desperate need of some love and attention. With this in mind, earlier in the year I brought a local team together to work on a plan to give it a facelift. The team included representatives from the West Faversham Community Centre, Faversham Town Council, and The Faversham Society.
We successfully applied for £5,000 of grant funding to install a mural celebrating Faversham’s history, which local artist Graham Upton has now completed. This fantastic mural uses anti-graffiti paint which will help to protect it going forward.
Swale Borough Council’s cleaning contractor, Suez, also came and gave the underpass a deep clean. I spoke to the street cleaners the other week and they assured me they will be continuing to sweep out rubbish regularly. I am hopeful that now it’s been smartened up, the people who drop rubbish in it (or worse) will think twice.
I know there is still the problem of flooding in the underpass when there’s heavy rain. It’s pouring outside as I write this so I can assure you I haven’t forgotten about that and I will continue to press Network Rail to improve the structure.
