I was so disappointed with the news this week that Operation Brock is set to restart in July.
As everyone locally knows, Brock means heavy traffic on Kent's roads, lower footfall for businesses, longer journeys and hours spent sitting in traffic - sometimes day after day.
It's understandable if there are exceptional circumstances like strikes or extreme weather, but it can't be the answer whenever we have higher traffic volumes. It means that in times like school holidays local businesses suffer, and families are stuck at home for fear of being caught in jams.
Ultimately this is a national issue which needs a national solution. Blocking up Kent's roads is simply not fair on local residents, and we need a longer-term plan in place.
That's why I've written to the Transport Secretary this week, and also called for a meeting with the Roads Minister to discuss. You can read my full letter below.
I'm determined that we find a way to fix this once and for all.
