Everyone deserves a home that's safe, secure and well maintained - and that includes people living in social housing.
Sadly that's all too often not the case, and that's why the Government promised to take action on this when were elected in 2019.
Lots of work is currently underway. Firstly, the Social Housing (Regulation) Bill which is currently going through Parliament will make a number of important changes - including bringing in qualifications for social housing managers, strengthening the regulation and enforcement of social housing standards, and introducing strict time limits for social landlords to fix damp and mould.
At the same time we've also launched our new Make Things Right campaign - making it faster and easier for social housing tenants to make complaints. You can find more info and support here.
I've also been on the case locally too - meeting Golding Homes back in March and Sothern Housing in April. Both committed to making improvements, and in fact had some positive news for local residents.
In Maidstone Golding Homes are currently undertaking a big regeneration in Shepway, while in Swale Southern Housing are working hard to improve insulation in their properties, as well as making repairs.
If you've got any issues with your social housing and would like my support in making a complaint, please email me at [email protected]
Residents' voices need to be heard.
