The Government is giving unprecedented support to help people with the cost of living.
Some of that is being spent on measures which help everyone, like paying on average half of everyone's energy bill this year, while the rest is being targeted to those who need it most. That includes families on means-tested benefits, people living with a disability, and pensioners struggling to boost their incomes.
In and around Faversham and Maidstone we’re lucky to have wonderful people working and volunteering to help those who are struggling. I brought some of these organisations together recently with my neighbouring MPs to find out what difference the Government support is making and what more I can do to help.
After the meeting I wrote to Treasury Minister John Glen on behalf of the local area to raise what we discussed, and you can read a copy of my letter at the bottom of the page.
What charities are finding is that while those who had experience of government support were making good use of the measures in place, people who have never received support before are often hesitant or embarrassed about seeking help.
Times are tough right now, and bringing down inflation is one of the Government’s priorities. In the meantime there is support available for those who need it, and people shouldn't be ashamed about asking. The sooner someone asks for help, the easier it is to resolve.
