The last of the new street signs and road markings went up last month.
Faversham now has a town-wide 20mph speed zone! This is the result of years of hard work from local campaigners, led by 20’s Plenty for Faversham.
However, this is only a trial scheme and Kent County Council are monitoring it carefully.
Feedback from people will be used to make any changes to the scheme and determine whether we stick with a lower speed limit across the town in the long term.
The scheme was approved by KCC earlier in the summer following a successful bid for funding from the Government’s Active Travel Fund to boost cycling and walking.
I called into the 20mph stall in the Market Place last month to hear from local councillors and residents about how the lower speed limit is working in practice.
The majority of feedback so far seems to be positive, but I know some people have concerns.
KCC are currently running a consultation on the scheme. More information on the consultation, including how to respond, can be found here.
I strongly encourage people in Faversham to take part in the consultation to make their views heard.
