I’m shocked by the recent stabbing in Faversham Rec.
My thoughts are with the boy who was attacked on Sunday afternoon and his family. As a mother, I can’t imagine anything worse than something like this happening to one of my children.
Sadly we know this isn’t a one-off incident. Reports of crime and anti-social behaviour in the Rec increased during the summer. I met Kent Police last Friday to raise people’s concerns and ask what is being done to tackle crime in known trouble spots.
Despite the best efforts of the police, it’s clear more needs to be done.
I’d like to thank everyone who’s signed the petition to keep the Rec safe. I completely understand people’s concerns. Having helped secure funding to regenerate the Rec, we now need to make it safe for people to enjoy.
I’ve called on Kent Police and Swale Borough Council to look at every possible option to improve safety in the Rec, including better lighting and more patrols. I’ll continue to work with local police and councillors to stamp out crime and anti-social behaviour in our town.
We need to make the Rec a safe place for our children and everyone in the community.
