£4 million will be invested in tackling traffic around Bearsted and Grove Green.
The money will go towards enlarging the A249/Bearsted Road roundabout and the A249 Bearsted Road/New Cut Road roundabout to cope with traffic associated with Kent Medical Campus (KMC) and housing growth in Maidstone.
I am delighted that I could help get this much needed investment in Kent’s roads. Traffic around Maidstone is already awful. The Kent Medical Campus will bring thousands more jobs to Maidstone, and with many more houses and two new schools planned too, we need to make sure the roads can cope with extra traffic.
I wrote to the Department of Transport supporting Kent County Council and Maidstone Borough Council’s bid for a share of the National Productivity Investment Fund.
The National Productivity Investment Fund is a £345.3 fund that Local Authorities can bid for. It is designed to help ease congestion on important national, local or regional routes and unlock job opportunities.
The bid was successful and the improvements should now go ahead. Congratulations to KCC, MBC and all involved in the successful bid”
