Boris Johnson has been appointed Prime Minister, and he's pledged to invest in broadband and mobile. Addressing the House of Commons today, he said that 'With the road and rail investments we are making and propose to make now – the investment in broadband and 5G – our country will boast the most formidable transport and technological connectivity on the planet.' In his first speech as Prime Minister on the steps of Downing Street, he said that '[being] Prime Minister of the whole United Kingdom ... means uniting our country, answering at last the plea of the forgotten people and the left behind towns by physically and literally renewing the ties that bind us together, so that with ... full fibre broadband we level up across Britain'.
I'm delighted that improving broadband and mobile coverage is a priority for the new Prime Minister. So much more of day-to-day life takes place online or on our phones, but too many people in Faversham and Mid Kent are being left behind. Making sure that everyone can access this modern day essential services is a key campaign for me and for this Government.
