People are fed up of the disruption caused by Operation Brock.
This year alone has seen two long spells of the barrier being in place – causing misery to motorists and businesses.
That’s why I’ve called for a new Taskforce to be set up to come up with long-term solutions that mean we don’t need to turn the M20 into a giant lorry park each time there is disruption at the Channel Ports.
With the Government’s renewed focus on growth, I’m calling on Ministers to tackle the Brock queues once and for all. Finding a long-term solution would unlock the economic potential of Kent and tackle the pollution caused by queueing lorries.
Last month I chaired an Operation Brock summit – bringing together representatives from Kent County Council, National Highways, Kent Police, Department for Transport, and Maidstone Borough Council.
There is a willingness to work together. My proposal for a Brock Replacement Taskforce would bring people together and help find a solution.
I have since called a meeting of Kent MPs and the Transport Secretary to discuss the idea, and we're now hoping to get the green light to go ahead.
Along with seeing an end to Operation Brock, I’m continuing to call for investment in our road network. Bottlenecks like Brenley Corner and Bluebell Hill are long overdue an upgrade and I’m making the case to Ministers for why improvements are needed.
Getting Kent moving is crucial for unlocking our economic potential and improving our environment.
