Following the tragic death of two-year-old Faye Burdett from Maidstone from Meningitis, I've asked the Prime Minister about vaccinating more young children against this terrible disease.
Faye’s parents have been so brave and inspirational in raising awareness about Meningitis. When I met them recently, I promised to do everything I could to help.
So at Prime Minster's Questions today, I said: "“I am sure the whole House will join me in expressing our condolences for Neil and Jennifer Burdett, the parents of 2 year old Faye who died on Valentine’s Day of Meningitis B. Since Faye’s death 815,000 people have signed a petition calling for the Government to vaccinate more children against Meningitis B. I’m proud that the UK is the first Country to have a vaccination programme for Meningitis B, but could my Rt Hon Friend ensure that the Government looks at what more can be done to prevent more children like Faye dying from this horrible disease?”
The Prime Minister agreed that the Government needed to look at all the evidence carefully, but also pointed out that the UK is already leading the world in vaccination.
