Getting a new Creek Bridge up and running would be a huge boost to Faversham.
It’s crucial for regeneration work around the Creek – improving the local environment as well as attracting more visitors and investment to this part of the town.
While a significant amount of money has been raised by local councils, charities, and individuals, there is still a shortfall in the amount needed for a new bridge.
Last week, I met the Maritime Minister, Rob Courts MP, for an update on what the Department for Transport is able to do in compelling those responsible for the bridge – Peel Ports – to contribute to the costs of a replacement.
I’m pleased the Minister is looking carefully at the possibility of issuing an Abatement Notice, following a request from Faversham Town Council earlier this year. It’s right that we explore all options for bringing Peel Ports to the table.
I’ve been convening regular meetings between Kent County Council, Faversham Town Council, the Faversham Creek Trust, and the Faversham Society to keep momentum moving forward in regenerating the Creek.
I was delighted to attend the AGM of the Faversham Creek Trust on Friday 20 May where I gave an update on my most recent conversation with the Minister.
I’ll continue to do everything I can to secure a new working bridge for our town.
