Giving sick and elderly people the best possible care is important to all of us. I urge you to respond to Kent County Council’s (KCC) consultation on the closure of two care homes.
KCC, who are responsible for social care in this area, are canvassing public opinion on the future of the Dorothy Lucy Centre in Parkwood, Maidstone and the Kiln Court Care Home in Faversham. The consultation closes on 20 December 2015, with a decision to be taken next year.
At a Faversham Patient Participation Group last week, several residents spoke highly of the care their relatives have received at Kiln Court and their worries about the prospect of closure. But people also understand that there's a great demand for social care so the county council has to make sure that their budget is being put to the best possible use. These days people tend to enter the residential care system when they are a lot older and have complex medical needs including dementia, so it’s important that the council’s care homes are fit to deal with everyone’s needs.
I'm meeting Kent County Councillors imminentley to better understand the rationale for their plans and the options.
I would encourage anyone who is concerned about this issue to share their views with KCC. This is your chance to make your voice heard.
You can respond to the consultation here: http://consultations.kent.gov.uk/consult.ti/carehomes/consultationHome. If you would prefer to email me, please do and I will happily pass your comments directly on to the Council.
