I was delighted to congratulate family-run business, Wayfarers, on their award-winning wines.
The Ashford family planted their first vines on a south facing slope on the North Downs in 2016, near their family home in Hollingbourne.
Despite only having their first harvest last year, all three of their wines recently won silver awards from Wine GB. The judges - Susie Barrie, Oz Clarke and Rebecca Palmer – were clearly impressed!
Wayfarer Wines are now developing a second site in Woodchurch, which will allow them to welcome visitors to wander the vineyard and discover their wines first-hand from the cellar door.
Kent is going from strength to strength in wine production. We now have some well-established vineyards in the county, as well as many smaller producers, helping to boost our local economy.
The Wine Garden of England is a fantastic trail through our stunning countryside, helping to promote Kent was a wine region.
I’m committed to supporting our rural businesses in Kent.
