I know how tough it can be to get around in rural places like Faversham and Mid Kent.
While many people choose to drive, that's clearly not an option for everyone - especially with recent increases in the cost of fuel.
That means access to reliable public transport is so important to some people's lives; so they can get to work, go and see a doctor, or just simply go to the shops.
So it's no surprise that people were worried when they heard about KCC's plan to stop subsidising some rural bus routes. They're prioritising funding for the services people are using more often, but that doesn't help those people affected.
I asked KCC to consider whether there was scope for local solutions to help these residents, and it's great to hear that they're now going to increase Community Transport Grant Funding from £100,000 to £450,000, with a scheme launching later this month. I've offered to help local parish councils apply, and you can read my letter below.
In the meantime if you're affected you might want to consider the Kent Karrier - it's a dial-a-ride service which takes people from home to places like the nearest town centre or supermarket, charging a small fare for each journey. Find out whether you might be eligible here: https://www.kent.gov.uk/roads-and-travel/travelling-around-kent/communi…
If you're affected by these changes do let me know and I'd be happy to get in touch with your parish council. Together we can try and make sure people can still get around.
