Extra funding is available to support local culture through our Museums and Galleries Improvement Fund.
Over the last 20 years, the Fund has supported 415 projects with £48 million shared out across 350 museums and galleries in the UK.
The Fund is designed to help increase opening hours and visitor numbers and encourage museums and galleries to widen access to their historic collections.
A further £4 million has now been made available through the Fund thanks to support from the Government and the Wolfson Foundation.
As a former Arts Minister, I know just how important culture is to local communities and economies across the country – including in Faversham and Mid Kent.
The £2 billion Cultural Recovery Fund was a lifeline to many museums and galleries during Covid. As we rebuild from Covid, it’s right we look to make our cultural attractions more accessible.
We have some fabulous local museums and galleries. I strongly encourage them to bid for some of this new funding to improve their displays and collections.
This cash boost will support the improvement of displays, protect collections, and make museums and galleries more accessible to visitors – helping to level up people’s opportunities to participate in and enjoy culture across the country.
