Children as young as four are having to take long, difficult journeys to school – that’s unacceptable.
All the schools in the area are oversubscribed and the additional housing planned for the area will increase the pressure.
Maidstone needs this new school to be built as soon as possible.
I've written to the Education Funding Authority [EFA], pressing for additional primary school provision in Maidstone.
Kent County Council have agreed with the EFA to build a new free school for September 2018, but have not yet found a suitable site.
We need to move quickly on this to ensure that the school is ready for 2018.
I will be monitoring progress closely to ensure the new school is on track.
