These are difficult economic times.
Covid followed by Putin’s war in Ukraine has meant that all around the world inflation is making people poorer. Here in the UK we have to do what we can to get it under control and protect families.
The measures announced by the Chancellor yesterday do just that, and what’s more they do it fairly. Those with the broadest shoulders have been asked to pay a bit more. And - just like throughout the last 2 years - we’re standing by the most vulnerable by uprating benefits in line with inflation and keeping the pensions triple lock in place.
That’s not all that was announced though; there was also more money for schools and the NHS, a doubling down on our climate commitments, and an extension of the support with energy bills to 2024 – along with lots else.
Even in these difficult times we’re determined to deliver on the things that matter to people.
