Too many women are still dying from breast cancer in the UK. This year alone around 11,500 women and 80 men will lose their lives. It’s time to act.
I'm pledging my support for women with breast cancer by becoming a parliamentary ambassador for Breast Cancer Now.
I've joined 200 MPs across the country who are pledging their support to Breast Cancer Now – the UK’s largest breast cancer charity – to remind fellow politicians and constituents alike that breast cancer is not a ‘done deal’ and that immediate action must be taken to stop the disease taking lives.
We urgently need to put the spotlight back on this dreadful disease locally and nationally. By becoming a Breast Cancer Ambassador, I will ensure that action is taken on behalf of the women and families in Kent and across the country affected by breast cancer.
I'm backing Breast Cancer Now’s bold ambition that by 2050 everyone who develops breast cancer will live. The charity is determined to stop women dying from the disease, working in a new, collaborative way and bringing together all those affected by the disease to fund research, share knowledge and find answers.
The UK still has one of the lowest breast cancer survival rates in Western Europe. Nearly 700,000 people living in the UK have experienced a diagnosis and one in eight women will face it in their lifetime. This year alone, more than 50,000 women will be told they have the disease.
Breast Cancer Now will be working closely with the two hundred Breast Cancer Ambassadors to help them take action to tackle breast cancer in their constituencies and in Parliament, and to ensure that the UK’s most common cancer remains high on the political agenda.
