Last Friday I took a ride on the Detling Shopper Bus – a new minibus service between Bearsted and Maidstone.
Back in 2022 I campaigned for an increase in community transport funding, after we lost several bus routes which simply weren’t getting enough passengers to keep them going.
Kent County Council agreed to use £450,000 of the government's Bus Service Improvement Plan for community transport, and this is one of several new services up and running in the constituency.
This one goes twice a day, Monday to Friday, and it’s been a lifeline for lots of people locally. A big thank you to David at Bearsted Parish Council and everyone else who helped get this running.
